Chelton are recruiting for a Buyer to join the procurement team working on our NPI (New Product Introduction). This role works cross functionally with our suppliers, programme management, engineering and quality teams as well as aiding the development of procurement strategies, researching vendors, managing the tendering process and end to end supply chain. You will also be expected to contribute to the on-going capability and performance of the function; a pragmatic individual with experience of working in supply chain across multiple projects is what we are looking for.

This role will be based at our offices in Marlow, Buckinghamshire.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end supply chain of key items to ensure the best possible quality, cost, delivery and overall supplier reliability
  • Manage associated sourcing and tendering processes
  • Ensure hardware deliveries are scheduled in line with production requirements; reviewing, negotiating and issuing purchase orders and adjust accordingly
  • Review and challenge engineering specifications to support the development of  procurement strategies
  • Undertake supplier negotiations to ensure appropriate and cost effective solutions are achieved
  • Research vendors and develop new and alternative sources of supply.
  • Create and maintain UPCs for products.
  • Ensure timely return of non-conforming supplier material 
  • Manage key stakeholder expectations
  • Assisting and supporting design reviews

Skills and Qualifications 

  • Experience of supply chain management
  • Supplier relationship management 
  • Experience as a buyer within a project setting, working on multiple projects
  • Good influencing and negotiating skills
  • Commercial acumen 

It would be advantageous if you had:

  • Technical knowledge of Electro-mechanical parts and assemblies.
  • Part qualified or qualified CIPS certification
  • Experience working in new product development 
  • Experience within a manufacturing company
