Chelton are looking for a Ground Support Engineer to develop a support solution for Main and Forward Operating Bases, as part of a major Electronic Warfare Training Programme.

The primary function of this role will be to specify custom and COTS equipment and training as part of the delivery of a Ground Support Handling and Test Solution for Airborne Podded Systems. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team, ILS and supply chain.

This is a permanent opportunity, based at our offices in Marlow, SL7. 

Responsibilities 

  • Review ground handling requirements (including decomposition of requirements) from use cases and high-level requirements to derive equipment level technical specifications
  • Review legacy and existing in-service ground handling systems
  • Work with mechanical engineering to deliver detailed engineering drawings for ground-handling and transport solutions for main and forward operating bases.
  • Supplier engagement; identify cost effective COTS and custom solutions
  •  Scope and specify test equipment to support calibration and BITE for various types of airborne podded equipment with test engineers
  • Develop training needs analysis (in partnership with ILS)
  • Develop training documentation for ground support equipment (GSE).
  • Liaise with NATO customer to review acceptability of the GSE solution and training plan 
  • Provide support to project managers 
  • Contribute to risk assessments in support of safety health and environment (SHE) considerations.
  • Lead assessments to determine compatibility of the solution to applicable standards and provide inputs to ILS to support reliability and spares considerations.
  • Contribute to programme risk assessments and risk mitigation planning

Qualifications and Experience

  • Good communication skills and demonstrable experience working with a multi-disciplinary engineering team
  • Systems Engineering experience across lifecycle (from requirements capture to design, verification and production), including support to design reviews and test readiness reviews.
  • Experience of writing equipment acceptance procedures and where appropriate test procedures, as well as overseeing tests and associated reporting.
  • Ability to interface with customers and stakeholders.

It would be advantageous if you had:

  • Experience in aircraft maintenance/repair environment, avionics, design of ground support equipment or ground handling training.
  • Appreciation of Human Factors and Ergonomics for design of ground support equipment.
  •  Appreciation of ILS aspects; maintainability, reliability and availability.
  • Awareness of training needs analysis, training plans and delivery of training.
  • Experience in Electronic Warfare domain would be a distinct advantage
