That is why we are looking for a Manufacturing Electronics Design Engineer to join the Chelton Team.

This role will be based at our Head Office in Marlow, Buckinghamshire.

  • PCB testing, fault finding, repair and testing; identify electronics component tolerance and design failure analysis and 8D corrective actions.
  • Implement manufacturing process controls on electronic products; defining Cp, Cpk and customer CTQs
  • Lead the E-CAD design optimisation methods on a PLM platform; design verification and manufacturing process 
  • Controlling manufacturing electronic designs and be a gate keeper for drawings and models used on shop floor and with external suppliers. 
  • Support NPI team on DFMA and 3D modelling on electronic component manufacturing methods. Optimise best method.
  • Produce 3D solid models for model based manufacturing work instructions.
  • Create and maintain electronics assessable testing, methods and procedure.
  • Introduce lean manufacturing methods
  • Manufacturing process simulation.
  • Owning the unit cost models for newly designed parts for the Operations function. Capturing any changes to the cost model in terms of both Unit Costs and Operational Assumptions – for example design changes or volume changes – so that traceability can be understood easily during the design process.
  • Supporting NPI programs with the DFMA, tolerance, design optimisation and value engineering support.
  • Design and develop electronics testing and characterisation capability. PCB testing and functional testing equipment development.
  • Work with supply chain to review designs in progress.
  • Capture operational best practice and develop cost models to allow Design Group to ‘trade’ different attributes e.g. cost vs weight.
  • Support supply chain on PCB manufacturing and testing, component specification and finding alternative components to obsolete components.

Person Specification 

  • Competent with C++ , Metlab or Python.
  • Good working knowledge in RF circuits and antenna communication electronics.
  • Knowledge of electronic testing simulation software or model based manufacturing & electronics simulation software.
  • Design experience in SMED, “poko yoko” tooling / design for manufacturing and assembly in the PCB industry.
  • BSc (hons) or MSc in electronics engineering , avionics or RF major.
  • Knowledge of E-CAD 3D solid modelling.
  • Electronic design and assessable simulation.
  • Manufacturing simulation experience.
  • Manufacturing  and assembly process design using digital twin.
  • Able to work with incomplete models and designs and define definition preferences.
  • Good communicator; able to work with different functions and suppliers to understand preferences and requirements in order to develop optimum model can be developed.
