Chelton celebrates 75 years of engineering excellence and pioneering innovation. Find out more here.
We are recruiting for a number of entry level engineering roles t
We offer opportunities for growth and career progression in a variety of areas, creating individually tailored development plans. We are committed in supporting your journey to achieve industry recognised accreditations and have a dedicated annual engineering training budget which you will be free to take advantage of.
As a well-established company with a proven track record of innovation and engineering excellence, we can offer stimulating opportunities to talented and enthusiastic individuals. We are equally committed to supporting your development aspirations as well as finding the perfect fit in our organisation.
You will be based in one of our three Business Units and, in conjunction with the Heads of Engineering and your dedicated mentor, we will create a bespoke and, importantly, permanent graduate engineering role for you. We’re not like the other graduate roles you may have seen advertised or even applied to; we don’t mandate you to spend certain periods of time with individual parts of the business. Instead, we will take your specific engineering interests into consideration and provide you with exposure to a range of different engineering disciplines, such as Software, Electronics and Systems and Mechanical Engineering.
By gaining hands-on experience, you will benefit from learning the many valuable skills you'll need to become a successful engineer with Chelton!
No two days are alike. You may be involved at any stage of a project; one day on the initial brief for a concept, the design and development stage and another day on the testing of prototypes and the final manufacture and implementation of a new product or system. One aspect will remain a constant, you'll work in project teams with colleagues in other engineering disciplines and learn from their expertise.
"Over the past year, I have been supporting a number of exciting key developments within the EODS space including a vehicle training simulator, as well as the next generation handheld explosive ordnance detection system. This includes activities right across the lifecycle from requirements capture right through to testing and commissioning which gives a lot of variety in my day to day role. I have also been supporting products which utilises emerging technologies such as virtual reality to provide a safe, yet realistic training environment for handheld detectors.
I have had many opportunities in visiting various exhibitions including DSEI in London, as well as an EODS expo in Slovakia, as well as visiting customers around the UK and in Germany. Over the past year I have also had the opportunity in flying UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) and integrating our sensor systems onto these aerial platforms – useful for route clearance and area search. As a result, I travelled (drove) to Spain and supported UAV trials in the middle of Spain farmland amongst the olive trees!
Whilst the site move to Redhill has been rather chaotic, this has presented a number of other opportunities in commissioning the scanning frame facility at a new site which I am currently supporting – further adding to the variety of work I get involved with on a day to day basis."
My name is Parth Sheth and I am one of the employees that was previously on the Graduate Scheme. I currently work as a Higher Mechanical Design Engineer at Chelton, Marlow.
The role provides an exciting opportunity to get involved with various Aerospace applications and working alongside international customers that specialise in different military platforms. I am responsible for designing new products and implementing changes on existing products to enhance their performance. Some of the products I’ve worked on have, or will, end up on the Reaper UAV and the new Korean 4.5 generation fighter aircraft!
Going through the life cycle management of these products from the design stage to the qualification stage is a fun journey (which of course includes challenges along the way). However, it’s all worth it and there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction you get when you see it flying on the final platform. No two days are the same in any role and everyday there’s something new to be learnt – I’ve been here for over 4 years now and I’m still learning something new every day!
To be successful at Chelton, you will need to display true resilience, an inquisitive nature and initiative whilst having the ability and desire to build technical knowledge in your role.
We are open to students with an interest and aptitude for a range of engineering disciplines and, more importantly, a willingness to learn and grow in a collaborative and supportive workplace.
We welcome applications from recent graduates with or without work experience and mature students from all universities, with a Bachelor’s or Masters degree in a STEM subject area.
All roles require basic security clearance and working in some areas within our business may require additional clearance.
Applications for this year's recruitment have now completed. Please check back regularly for more graduate opportunities.
